Annual Black Berry Jam Cooking - 恒例ブラックベリージャム作り

Season of Black berry has come!  This is my annual event at home in Canada.  Yes. I am safe to survive here in Edmonton spending almost a year:) Looking back the year, I have been a wife and traveller.  I had personally things to do and a very fulfilling life somehow blended by every one. "Weird."  I like to say "Thank you to all."  I tried to find the other possible word equivalent to it.  But "thank you" is the best word to express and one that I like.

I stop to look back the year 2012 - 2013 and find myself weird again.  "How come I became a tweeter like this?" I think every one has a season of cycle. I at least am one of those folks. I like to tweet in some seasons while not in the others. "When do I feel like to tweet and not?" "Timing?" No clue.

Now "what is a classic attraction in Edmonton?", asking it to myself.  I find it "Artistic Sky in Edmonton" after all.  It's just like I can enjoy an interesting image on a canvas called "Sky" whatever day it is.

I have  written like this, "This year I like to see ..." in a past story on this blog.  Indeed I find myself walking in variety of old and new people one by one.  What we write down seem to come true. Sounds weird once again. This blog became a mandala sand picture for me.  It turn out to be that my mission is to accomplish this blog in a year since I started last year.  Now I like to complete Episodes by redoing annual Jam cooking. Nothing more, Nothing less.  Zero.  It's time to let it go with completion. Thank you for taking time to feel ?  !  :)  :0  lol  :S   :/   ;) ...

今年もブラックベリーの季節がやって来たぞぉ！「そしてやっぱり今年もジャム作り」を迎えるにあたり、ここエドモントンで無事1年を生きのびたのを実感:) まずは、皆様に季節はずれの挨拶を申し上げます。ありがとうございました。この言葉が一番、シンプルでそして私が好きな言葉です。

この1年を改めて振り返ってみて、なんだか摩訶不思議。主婦、そして風来坊だったのですが、なんだかいつもやる事があり、充実しておりました。これも、色んなかたちで皆さんに影響を与えられ、そして皆さんに押される事があったりとしたお陰でもあります。それよりも、「よくもまぁ、よもやま話を色々とつぶやいたものだなぁ。」と。どうも、人には周期があるのではないかと思います。「つぶやきたいなぁ。」と思える時と、そうではない時と。私は、少なくともそういう人間でした。このタイミングは?　よくわかりません。そして去年の9月に始めたこのブログをちょうど1年で完成させるのが、いつのまにか私なりのミッションのようなものになっていました。少し早いですが、個人的な理由もあり、ここは時を端折って戴けると幸いです。

「エドモントンで、いつの時代も変わらぬ魅力って何だろう?」

たどり着いたのが、やはり「絵になる空」でした。私にとっては、雨が降ろうが、雪が降ろうが、晴れようが、曇ろうが、空は情緒を醸し出すキャンバス。お陰様で、気がついたら旧友から新友とバラエティに富んだ方々。。。1人ずつながら、ウォークインさせて戴く日々でした。以前にこのブログで「今年は。。。出会えるといいなぁ。」とつぶやいたことがあります。
書いた事は亀のスローペースながらも実現しているように感じます。そして、今になって振り返ると、このブログが私にとって、ここ1年の曼荼羅砂絵になったようです。

今まで、このブログに立ち止まって、一緒に ?   !  :)  :0  lol  :S  :/   ;)   ...と感じて戴き有難うございます。これ、こっちでよく使う顔文字。日本と少し違いますねぇ。またまたよもやまはさておき。。。それでは、恒例ジャム作りをもう一度完了する事で、エドモントンでのエピソードを完了させて頂きたいと思います。出来たブログの砂絵は、自然に帰ればいいか。と思います。それ以上も以下も何もないです。ゼロ0。

それでは、ささやきたくなったらまたいつものごとく、

風来坊で、四方山ポップアップさせて頂きます。 -　お辞儀　礼! -

Preparation　準備 1:

*4 pack of black berry

(accomodating 500m of water/pack ... just for reference)
*ブラックベリー4パック

　(このパックに水を注ぐとちょうど500mでした。目分量ですいません)

Preparation　準備 2:

*Sugar 500m jar x 2 (Could be white & 1.7~2.0 x　500m jar)

*More sugar is suitable for preservation in a long run
*Can be preserved in 6 ~ 12 months in a condition of cool temperature free from light.
*砂糖　500mビン　X 2(白砂糖でもOK　&　ビン1.7~2.0個分OK)
*砂糖の量が多ければ多いほど、長期保存向け。涼暗所であれば、6~12ヶ月普通に持ちます。

Preparation　準備 3:

*kit for sterilization by boiling

(This time 3 x 500m jar)
*煮沸キット
(今回はジャム詰め用に500mビン x 3をとりあえず準備)

Preparation  準備4:

*Moving berries to a strainer.

*ベリー達をざるに一度引越しさせます。

Preparation　準備 5:

*Because you like to rinse them with a gentle flow of water getting rid of some leaves and stuffs.

*というのも、葉っぱなどが混じっているので、弱い水流で軽く洗い流したいからです。

Preparation　準備 6:

*Pot 1

*Go for sterilization by boiling during getting berries in a rest a bit.
*After sterilization done, keep the heat of Pot 1 minimum for later use.
*鍋風呂1
*その後ベリーを少し休ませ中、煮沸に入ります。すべてのキットを鍋風呂1に浸からせて下さい。
*煮沸後、この鍋風呂1を弱火でキープしておくと後で便利。

Cooking　調理 1:

*Pot 2

*Go for cooking! Heat up to high.
*Dump berries into a Pot 2.
*鍋風呂2
*いよいよ点火!背番号「ベリー」、鍋風呂2へジャンプ。

Cooking　調理 2:

*Next, Sugar!

*背番号「砂糖」、鍋風呂2へジャンプ。

Cooking　調理 3:

*Looks too much sugar?!

*砂糖が多すぎ!?に見えるかな。

Cooking　調理 4:

*No worry. Ok this much of sugar.

*Berries are actually lots as deep as a pot is.
*そんな事ないです。鍋風呂が深い(日本のバスタブと同じく)ので、
実はベリーがたっぶり。砂糖はそのぐらいあって普通。

Cooking　調理 5:

*Fusion of sugar & berries in 5~10mins.

*Still you can feel "berries are here firmly".
*Heat down to middle.
*5分~10分程、ベリーが柔らかいながらまだしっかり感じられます。ここで、そろそろ中火に切り替え。

Cooking　調理 6:

*Transform from Sugar & berries to a jam

*Stir them in the rest of the time.
*When the "berries's touch is gone",then
*残りの時間は、じっくりしっかりかき混ぜます。ベリーの形の感触がなくなって、トロリとしたら

Cooking　調理 7:

*It's time to move a jam to a jar.

*ビンにジャムを詰めましょう。

Cooking　調理 8:

*About this much.

*Less air in a jar is suitable for preservation in a long run like 6-12 months.
*だいたいこの辺りまで。　空気の隙間が少ない方が長期保存向き。

Cooking　調理 9:

*Now oven gloves needed because very hot.

*Close a jar with a lid tightly. 
*ここで、鍋つかみ登場。熱いので気をつけましょう。
*蓋をしてしっかり密閉しましょう。

Cooking　調理 10:

*Move jam-filled jars into a Pot 1.

*Now heat it up to high again. 
*できあがったジャム入りビンを、煮沸で使用した鍋風呂1にもう一度浸からせます。
*弱火から強火へ切り替え。

 Cooking　調理 11:

*Final sterilization by boiling.

*Half bathing
*About 5 minutes boiling
*最終煮沸風呂。ジャムの半身浴。
*5分程だろうか。



Cooking　調理 12:

*Take jars out of the pot.

*Wipe with a clear towel.
*Listen to "Pop!" sounds normally after some while when an inner lid gets pulled down by air from inside a jar.
*Completion　(2.5　x　500m　jar)
*ジャムがお風呂から出る頃。
*きれいなふきんで湯をふき取り。
*しばらく置いていると、各ビンの中フタから鳴る「ペコン」という音に、耳をたてて下さい。
中フタが、ジャムビン内の空気に引っ張られるように、わずかにへこむからです。
*出来上がり。 (出来高:ちょうど500mのビン x　2.5個分)

アドバイス:このジャム作り、実は親から受け継いだ習慣。

記憶をたどって編み出し、少し違っても自分流に考えて作った方法です。

私の場合は、毎年普通に、出来上がってます。

「えっ、こうするんじゃないのぉ?!」

という方は、それをするのをおススメ。

赤っ恥、黄っ恥、青っ恥?!

今日も、よもやま。その前に。。。
まずは、知らぬが仏。「赤っ恥」お詫びを致します。申し訳ございません。

先日張り切って、おおまかな「アルバータ州運転免許証取得のフローチャート」と題して思いっきり間違ったYou Tubeのスライドをネットに流しました。私のサイトはこじんまりしてるので、流れてもスルーされていると思いますが、流した物はしょうがないです。一応、改正版を流したいなぁ。と思います。これ思いっきり赤っ恥でした。今日、私自身の自動車運転免許の手続きで、最終的に日本総領事館(カルガリー)の方と、行きつけのレジストリーAccu - Searchの方と、お話する機会がありました。お陰で、徐々に気づきました。

その後、実は、夫とメッセージをやりとりをする機会が。
「黄っ恥」
私「結局、Full Class 5に移行できるみたい!」
夫「Can you update?」
あとは、 - 秘密-　よまやま。ヒント:　やはり食べ物の話題でした。

その後、なぜか、教材をもう一度見てみる事に。珍しく、私にしては細かいチェックを。4度目の復習。よ～く見ると、Class 5とだけ書いてます。「私の英語力ではちょっと判断しにくいかな?」　「前後のページと比べるとなんとなくわかるかな?」　「あとは、私ちょっとつっ走ったかな?」　
と思いました。「青っ恥」ちょっと恥ずかしいですね。

問題の点は、こちら。

• 日本の有効な自動車運転免許証を持っていたら、どうなるのか?

結局、

• 訂正前:アルバータ州 Class 5 GDL　へ移行
• 訂正後:アルバータ州　Class 5 Full(Non GDL)　へ移行

という訳で、こちらの改訂版をご参考に。ついでに私も訂正後の路線を走りそうです。

Driver's License Knowledge test - 運転免許筆記テストの巻き

Yes. I received AB medical care card in my mail post today since I had applied for it the other days.  Yes. I found myself having knowledge test of Alberta Class 7 driver's license at my nearest registry
"Accu - Search" since I had happened to get a driver's guide book. Today I felt as if I had driving on 3 lanes with white dot line as I lined up at 3 different counters: a lady 1, a lady 2 and a man 3 at 3 different times by getting rule and instruction just like signals: red, yellow and green.   There were U turn to get a necessary document &  pay parking to take test on the way.

気がついたら、自動車運免許の筆記テストを受けに行ってました。お陰様で、パスでき、ホッ。タイミングよくポストにも先日申し込んだ、アルバータ州医療保険カードが入っていて、にんまり。
という訳で、少しだけこちらの運転免許の筆記テストについてご説明したいと思います。すでにこちらで運転されてる方はスルーして下さいね。こちらは指定のガイド本を自習して、当日必要な物をを持参、ウォークインをしてあっけなくテストに突入という感じで、とりあげるほどの事ではないのですが。カナダで全くいちからスタートされる方用です。参考までに。

First of all, I like to show "What to bring or prepare for?"

「何が要るの?」それは、こちらの画像の中。プラス、コンタクトの方はいいですが、裸眼の方で運転では眼鏡がいる方、受かった時の為に持参して下さいね。$17.6　テスト代も。

Here is how a test goes...

Basic idea:

• Show your residency & Id.
• Pay 1st to buy a test permit.
• Sit at a test booth. Nothing personal stays on your desk with cel phone off.

基本の流れ:　たまに色んなケースありますが。

• お近くレジストリーに訪れましょう。
• 「エドモントンに住んでますよぉ。」の証明(アルバータ州在住証明ですね。公共料金の支払い等、上に記載)
• 「私は誰ですかぁ？」の証明(IDですね。パスポート等、上に記載)、
• 「カナダで何してるのぉ?」の証明(カナダでのステータスですね。ビザ等、上に記載)を持って、カウンターへの列に並びましょう。
• カウンターで言われる指示に耳を傾けましょう。
• そのままテストブースに案内してくれるはず。

 

Test: No limit time

• Your name is on screen.
• Sample quiz let you to familiarize how to click to choose and also test you basic math skill.
• 30 Questions start.
• You pick 1 out of 4 choices to answer. Image helps you to visualize.
• You have a chance to skip a question & come back to it also to confirm your each answer.
• When your correct score reach 25, test is over. "pass" on the screen.
• Line up for a counter again to finish the test process.

テスト:　時間制限なし（これ、嬉しいです。）

 

• 席に着いたら、余計な私物はすべて床へ。携帯は電源Off。
• この段階でも、ルールが守れないと、いきなり30日の免停をプラスされます。とはいえ、普通の学生のテスト場と同じだと思えば、気楽に。
• 目の前のコンピューターのスクリーンに、書いてる名前は「あなたかな?」チェック。
• サンプル質問。ここで「4択から正しいと思う物をクリックしましょう。」の予行演習。
• いよいよ、30問クイズ。各問いには画像がきちんとついるので想像しやすいと思います。4択の中から「これだ!」と思う物をクリックしましょう。
• もう一度「これでいい?」と聞いてきます。「いい！Yes」「やっぱり。。。No」。
• 更に、「ちょっと後で考えるわぁ。Skip」なんかもありました。
• さて、こうしてポチポチとボタンを押していきましょう。
• そうこうしているうちに、25問正解すれば、画面に「pass」と出ます。勝手に画面終了。
• 先ほどのカウンターの列に並びましょう。ここで視力検査に案内されます。
• 10分程です。見えるままを答えましょう。
• 終了。

 

Here is a short episode today ...

A lady showed me to one of 3 booths for computer based test.  "No cel phone" I heard that.  I asked, "Turn off?" "Yes."  While turning off, "No! You got 30 days suspension! No cellphone! It's written here!"  This word was actually for a boy who was just taking a test at the next booth.  I thought "Ok. I heard that." I just noticed yellow notice of rule.  What I remember was "No cellphone" "Purse on the floor"  I was a little hungry and so "No food" was quite impressive. Afterward things went on just normally. I found myself getting a pass. "Yay!"  Next was vision test.  I just did as a man instructed and as I felt. (If you need any glasses or contact lenses, prepare for it.) And... it's done.  Now I'm going to bring a Japanese expired licence to finish the Class 7 process. Then my past & present combo will be ready.    

 

Here is how I thought about studying a driver's guide.
Summarize what it says in the book with your own words. It doesn't have to be neat. Pick a key word and just put in order as you like so that you can understand.  That's the best way to fully understand, I thought.  If it has any index, it would make one to study efficiently. For example,"A space cushion?... ah.. OK, here page 38." or "Turing section is...page ..." Just like this.

 

お勉強豆知識:
実は、ガイドブックは10外国語で翻訳版もあり、テストもそれに対応して10カ国言語対応中。残念ながら日本語はないですが、英語の方が分かりやすいかも?!と思ってみるのも、ひとつです。

パッと初めて見ると、「うわっ文字ばっかり」。ここでひるんではいけません。

• 一度目は「絶対に全部目を通さなければなりません。」できるなら、「あっ、この単語さっき出てきた～」となるぐらい身に覚えさせましょう。多少意味がわからなくてもスキップ。細かい事は後で。
• 二度目は、英語のセンテンスを丸覚えするのではなく、「何を言ってるのかな?」を自分なりに把握、「どんな状態?」「どんな骨組み?」をイメージしてみて下さい。時間はかかるかもしれませんが。特に運転歴がないと。それをよ～く、頭にインプットしましょう。この段階が一番「あ～、疲れた。もう明日にしよっ。」と頭をかかえる時間帯かもしれません。が一旦、これをしておくと後が楽です。時間制限はないのでゆっくりと。早くとりたければ、頑張ってね。
• 三度目は、自分なりにまとめたものをもう一度復習しましょう。

英語は、単語の区切りがはっきりしてるので、インデックスが取り上げ易いです。できるなら、この教習ブックでインデックスができるといいのだが。

という訳で、恒例のドラゴンボートフェスティバルにむけて、メンバーが練習中のようです。ここエドモントンでも毎年開催されます。川沿いの公園 McKinney Riverfront Park では、初日夕方に、太鼓やライオン踊り、その他フードテントや、ドラゴンボートのプロモーショングッズ販売等々が繰り広げられます。公園には、ランドマークになるものがあるのですぐわかります。

I like to introduce one more thing associating with this river valley.  Walking, jogging, running and biking of course. If you stop by here, Segway is fun to try.  I actually tried it this summer and found it quite fun.  It's a new sensation to enjoy strolling with river view & air. Sometimes shaking your body.
Anybody can ride with a normal balance. Once you step on it, it feels you be part of your body. "How can I ride?"  Then cheerful staffs are there to take you to guide.

 

ちなみにボートフェスティバルとは少し脱線しますが、この辺り、散歩はもちろん、自転車も、そしてSegwayという立ったまま乗る乗り物でも散歩できます。この夏、私も始めて乗ったのですが、結構快適。普通のバランス感覚があれば誰でも簡単に乗れます。乗ると、自分の体の一部になります。不思議。風を切りながらスイスイ散歩。たまには、体もフリフリしながら。川沿いの眺めも最高です。「簡単に乗れるのだろうか?」大丈夫。インストラクターのお姉さんが丁寧に教えてくれます。詳しくはこちら。

Wind made me revisited Food truck "Yellow Bird Cafe".  "Yellow Bird Cafe" reminds me of a moment when I had a 1st chance to talk in Japanese last year since I have moved down to Edmonton.

Once again it feels me being in almost in a year of cycle since I started this blog.

 

という訳で、本日は、風が強くなったので、風来坊でフードトラック"Yellow Bird Cafe"　さんを訪れてみました。 実は、"Yellow Bird Cafe"と言えば、私にとっては、去年初めてエドモントンに来て以来初めて日本語をお話する機会を与えてくれたフードトラックでした。やはり、エドモントンでの１周を思わす瞬間でした。

 

I was glad to have a chance to see them. The difference between last year and this year were:

そして、今年もこうして道端でお会いできて嬉しかったです。去年と今年はちょっと違った点がありました。

 

1. I talked to : "Wife Ayumi san" last year, "Husband Masa san" this year.
2. I feel Masa san : "Quiet" last year, "Talkative if I give talking." this year.
3. Menu : "Italian" last year, "Japanese" this year.
4. Place : "Stable" this year, "Mobile" this year.

• その1　お話の相手:去年「奥さん」　今年「旦那さん」
• その2　旦那さん:去年「中に居て、おとなしいなぁ。」今年「ちょっと話すと、実はよく話すなぁ。」
• その3　メニュー:去年「イタリアン」　今年「和風」
• その4　出張場所:去年「どちらかというと定位置」　今年「よりモバイル」

ここで、少し私も振り返ってみたいと思います。一度「なぜ、人は旅をするのだろうか?」と問いかけた事があります。

 

そして、私の中の答えにも違いがありました。

• 去年:「現地の人がしている事をウォッチングしながら楽しむ」
• 今年:「その人に再会する、特別な瞬間に再会する」　

The following are what I thought about food truck boom expanding.  Personality comes on the top of the list above food taste, marketing etc...It makes a difference as a personal connection in a long run since I put more value on personality.  What personality? "Pleasant?" "Fluent speaking?" Whatever would come on the top depending on you as many as people are here. I rather like "Honest, just like being as it is, as you are."  I sense he is one of them at a quick seeing.

これは、私の意見ですが、更にフォーカスして人柄に触れるというのがあるのではないかと思いました、きっとフードトラックなどは、日進月歩で味もさながら、やはり宣伝力も必要かと。しかしながら、長い目で見た時、やはり口コミな要素が物を言ってくるのではないかと思いました。それは「人柄」であると思います。こればかりは、相性もあり一概には、何がいいかなんて断言できたものではないのですが。愛想がいいとか、よくしゃべる、とかより、私は「飾らない正直なそのまんま」に価値を置きたいなぁと思います。Masa さんも、どちらかとういうとそんな方ではないか、と思いました。チラッとだけお会いさせて頂きましたが。

Yes.  Also is for drivers & people in a car. Just like drive-through.

 

これは、私が今日学んだ事。

 

• その1　フードトラックを営むには、色んな条件や規約、顧客のニーズを考慮しながら、グッドタイミング&バランスでメニューの割り振りや場所を選ぶ必要があるという事でした。
• その2　フードトラックは、実はモバイルドライブスルーにもなるよ。でした。この点は今まで全く気づきませんでした。どちらかというとオフィス街のランチ、公園の子供達のランチ、ナイト、ファーマーズマーケットの出し物、イベントでの出し物、というイメージしかなかったのですが。

おっと、肝心な食べ物の紹介忘れてました。
今日は、loco moco　& egg。道の模様がついてました。他にも、焼肉ラップなどあり。デザートも日によってあり。メニューを臨機応変に変えてます。

Masaさんは、エドモントンにある日本食レストランを経て、フードトラックを経営されたそうです。日本食レストランを経て、別の日本居酒屋を経営される方も居たりします。一つの場所から、こうして人生道がわかれていくのだなぁ。を思いました。

I wasn't expect to get this material today since I visit one of registries for the other reason.
However I had a chance to see a bit about Alberta Driver's License and so like to introduce a quick summary. "How it works? in Alberta..." I recently just have been hearing friends'story somehow.  I was not still clear about that. Discovery on the day of applying for SIN card - SINカード申請日の珍道中

SIN card in Canada?

To apply for province medical, you need SIN number. To work, you need SIN number. This will let you to stand at a start line in Canada. 

1st I like to talk about application for SIN card after permanent residence via family class in Edmonton. This was quite quick process. I took a way of process in person.

Where I visit is Service Canada on 9700 Jasper Ave located in downtown.

When I entered the building, I head to information booth since lots of sections were on the main floor. The way to go was the section at the end on right side. I saw a line of people.  I joined in it and my turn came.  When I requested application for SIN card showing a paper proof of landing (as still my PR card is on a way), a lady gave me a small sheet of form.
 
What I filled up is my mother's full name at birth and my father's and present address. A bit curious about  why? parents' information in a long distance.  Maybe because of family class?  Never mind.

Sooner or later, a man called my first name and took me to a counter booth.  When we sat, he introduced his name and started with paper work.  Just several simple questions such as "1st time to apply?" "What is postal code?" "Any question?"etc. About 10 minutes and every thing was done.  The card will be coming in about2 weeks.  Process itself was very simple and first.

本日、早速SIN カードを申請してきました。SINカードって?

カナダでの社会保険番号です。医療をうけるにも、働くにもすべてはここから始まります。今回は、ファミリークラスで移民した後の、SINカード申請のお話をさせて頂きます。手続きはいたって簡単、シンプル。

訪れた所はここエドモントンダウンタウンにあるService Canada。住所は9700 Jasper Ave。ビル内に入ると、たくさんのセクションがずらり。とりあえず、中央にあるインフォメーションセンターに行く事に。行くべきところは、その先をずっと通り越して、右手側一番終わりのセクションになります。人が並んでいるので、私も混じらせて頂く事にしました。順番が来たので、一言「最近移民になったばかりなのですが、SINカードを申請したいです。」と。すると係員の方が「永住カードは?｣と。私の場合もうじき郵送で来るので、かわりにその証明になる用紙を添えました。その後は、小さいフォームを渡され「記入して名前を呼ばれるまで待ってて下さい。」と。何を記入するのかな?と思ったら、なぜか、両親の生まれた時のフルネームでした。ちょっと「えっ何でこんな情報が?」と不思議に思いましたが。あとは、現住所でした。しばらくして、別の係員に名前を呼ばれ、その方についていく事に。ついていった先は、カウンセラーブースのひとつ。お互いに座ったら、「僕の名前は～～～」と軽い紹介から始まり、2~3の簡単な質問がなされました。「申請は初めて?」「郵便番号は?」「他に質問は?」等々。SINカードは2週間程で郵送されてくるらしいです。おおよそ、10分程であっという間に終わりました。それよりも、実はこの手続き中、重大な事に気づいてしまい、気がそわそわ。それは。。。

During this process, my mind was quite stirring for some reasons. I discovered "No house key" "No cel phone" in my purse. "Oh my god, really? That doesn't sound good..."  I don't know why this happened. But it happened. I always ask to make sure to the other "You got cel phone, house key?"  Today I was the one who missed all of those.

So the other story today is
What if you left house key and cel phone behind in the house?

Answer is not only one.  But for sure simple enough, you better remember any contact number that comes in first in your mind. That will lead you eventually to get any help in emergency. Or getting a list of memo. Better to just wait for time to pass by.
 
That was my fault and it was worth to have such an inconvenient experience. I felt embarrassed myself and yet there was no time to stay in that state. Without any help and cooperation of people, I couldn't make it. Thanks to my husband, owner of my unit, condominium building management staff and people on my way of all who communicated and helped me today, I am at home now. Also I had such a lot of thinking of "how I should do?" to correspond with more than 3 people in 3 different places without any civilized tools.  How thankful it is to have a good owner of unit when I rent it.  This is some of what I learned today.

I actually detoured to get into the condo building and home since I didn't know emergency buzz number to a building management.  For this reason, I first traveled to find a pay phone to ask help to make a phone call.  "Hotel or shopping mall must have it"  Surprisingly or I should have known it... Not so many have pay phone any more nowadays. Luckily the pay phone at Fairmont Hotel Macdonald worked for help 1st. I was panicked calling while hearing their ambassador dog calling. I could use $1,$5,$10,$25 coin, credit card. Afterward a couple more time to call... I moved around to make another calls believing easy to find a pay phone.  It turned out to be that not at all or some didn't work properly. Eventually I reached public library through customer desk at city center shopping mall. A staff showed one pay phone downstairs. By the time, timing was good and I was ready to go home by running for some reasons.   

カバンを何気に探ったら、家の鍵もない、携帯もない。という事態が。「えっ、まさか。」と思い、何度か探りましたが、やはりない。という訳で、お恥ずかしい失態話をさせて戴きます。人にはこっぴどく言うのに、今日は私がまんまと忘れてしまいました。自分でも何で、よりによってダブルで忘れるか?と問いかけてみたものの、後の祭り。

「家に、鍵と携帯を忘れたらどうしたらいいんだろう?」の巻き。

答えは、ひとつではないのですが。普通に考えると、単純に「ここぞという時の電話番号は頭に覚え込んでおく事」だと思います。最近はツールにいったん、登録すると番号を見なくてもかけれるので。。。ひとつ番号があれば、数珠繋ぎに、ヘルプデスクにたどりつけるのでは。。。と思います。もしくは、メモっておく。日が暮れるのを待つよりずっといいです。

自分のせいで人をまき込んでしまってご迷惑をおかけする事に。コンドミニアムの緊急ブザー番号を知っていたら、こんな遠回りはしなかったような気もします。しかしながら、普段何事もなく過ごしているとわからないかもしれない発見もありました。今回、あっという間に、家に入れたのも、夫、家のオーナー、コンドミニアム管理スタッフ、道中で質問に答えてくれた方々のヘルプのおかげでした。感謝の嵐です。

そして、「どうしよう。。。」とあせりつつも、パニックになってる暇はなく、「携帯やスマホなしに、タイミングよくどうやって連絡をとったらよいのだろうか?」と頭をかかえました。がとりあえず、公衆電話を探す事に。運よく、出くわしたFairmont Hotel Macdonaldに、訪れると「奥にありますよ。」との事。救われた気がしました。ここのホテルの大使犬の鳴き声をききながら、第1コールをする事ができました。ここから先、数回はタイミングをみてコールをする必要があったのですが、じっとしていたらいいものを、動きまわってしまいました。公衆電話なら簡単に見つかると思い込んでたのです。こんなに苦労するとは思いませんでした。「ホテルやショッピングモールならあるだろう。」と思っていたら、ないです。当たり前と言えば当たり前なのかもしれませんが、最近は、便利なツールが普及した時代。途中、数箇所あったと思ったら、うまい事、動いてくれず。。。結局最後に、タイミングよくあったのが、ダウンタウンの図書館の地階にある穴場な公衆電話でした。スタッフが教えてくれました。無事コンドミニアム内に入れて、家のドアもあける事ができる為のラストコールをする事ができました。

 In the last, I have a small question for a rare case, probably 1% out of 100. Living without any mobile tools must be very obsolete idea however I wonder if every one has a mobile phone.  what if people or traveller without the tools must use phone on the street or in public for some reasons?  That must be very... I just imagined.

スマホ、携帯をもってるのが当たり前で、こんなケースに時間をかけてる暇はないんだよ。というのが今のご時勢なのはわかります。が、この稀なケースを経験して、ふと疑問に思いました。全員が全員、本当にモバイルツールを持っているかな?と。もし、持ってない人、海外から来た旅行者が、ホテルの中ではなく、道端や通りや、公の通り道で、どうしても電話をする用があった時、大変だろうなぁ。と。

今日は、びっくりしたし、走ったなぁ。

1 Year Old?

While walking, "Oh toucan!".  That's one of my favorite bird.  I don't have to tell you the story.  But still I like to tell.  When I was a kid, I was quiet and yet stepping feet and jumping somehow with a music.  That music was by Walter Wanderley.  It was actually not my choice but my parents'.  I even didn't know what kind of music or who the artist was.   Only thing I kept saying was "The song of big beak!".  The album face had a toucan on it.  That's my memory. 

「あっ、オオハシ!」歩いてる時偶然見つけたParadise Grill。オオハシは私のお気に入りの鳥のひとつ。何でかと言うと。。。話さなくてもよいのですが、話させていただきます。まだ私が小さい頃の話になります。おとなしいながら、とある音楽がなるといつも足をステップさせたり、飛び跳ねたりしていたそう。その音楽は、Walter Wanderleyさんのボサノバオルガンの曲。アルバムジャケットに、この鳥オオハシが載ってたのです。その頃は、誰が、何のジャンル、も何も知らず、「大きいくちばしの鳥の曲!」とだけ叫んでました。両親の選曲でした。

This is just behind the story by the way. Paradise Grill opened last year the owner said.  I opened this blog last year too.  Just familiar feeling and I like to introduce it.  They will be at Legislature on July 1 Canada Day and also at Churchill Square on A Taste of Edmonton Next month.   When I came across them, they were preparing.  I will catch up later.

そんな訳で、このトラックに親近感を覚えました。ちなみに、トラックの準備をしてる方に聞くと、昨年オープンされたそう。ついでに私も、このブログを始めたのが昨年で、何だか嬉しかったです。近々の彼らの予定ですが、7月1日カナダデーにアルバータ州議事堂にて、更に来月A Taste of Edmonton  にて。ちょうど準備中だったので、私は次回に期待したいと思います
